the best penang food buffet is actually at Penang Place at International Biz Park (at Jurong). i used to think King's is good until I ate at Penang Place. and Penang Place is also much cheaper, around $20 per pax. While the spread may not be as large as King's it's good enough as u have all the usual good Penang fare like laksa (they sometimes have 2 kinds - penang laksa and siam laksa), rojak, prawn mee soup, fried kway teow (very good and they fry by the plate instead of putting in the buffet pot), lor bak, hot dishes like rendang etc....

King's is good in that they have nice satay, mini nasi lemak and very good nonya kuehs for dessert.

as for york, i find it most not worth eating cos not much variety and the quality cannot even beat Penang Place or Kings.
what is life without yummy food?

Penang Place may be a little more value for money, and great for lunch on a workday. But, its a 'toned-down' version and doesn't give the same 'kick' / 'shiokness' as does the buffet at King's. Which, if I were to have for a work-day lunch, would generally mean an 'off' afternoon...

Definitely agree. King's has better quality and much better taste.

I was disappointed, to say the least, the last time I tried Penang place after it was hyped up.

Oh, didn't know they were from Singapore. Food is not too bad. Prawn paste chicken, soy sauce belly pork, nonya fried rice and char kway teow are good. Typical Notting Hill prices though.

Kings Hotel... if it is the same one I've been to before it's actually quite good... well that's what my friends who are crazy about local food have been telling me. They like the variety and spread. I heard from them that it's quite BIG!

So anyway, are there any other places you would recommend?

i have a friend who really really plans for her buffet bringe. she will book a hotel room, makan first then check in at 2pm. at 6pm, she goes to spa and then a light dinner.

2kumars, next time, you dont need to be rolled out, but push up to the guest room in the luggage trolley....

had the penang buffet at king's yesterday. personally, i think it's not that great. maybe it's just my luck. the fried kway teow was tasteless which hubby also agreed. penang laksa not as good as penang place. the kuehs were also not that fantastic.

they din top up my empty glass even after we asked so i purposely brought my glass to the counter to ask for water.

personally i would rather go to penang place lor.
