Balestier Food Center

Postby bobafett81 » Thu Apr 10, 2008 3:47 pm

Read in today's Zaobao that Balestier Food Center will reopen in about 1.5 months time.

The operator of the Balestier Food Center is also the operator of the former Oasis group next to National Stadium. And the 2 pairs of stone lions, which are situated at Oasis, will move.

1 pair will be at the new Oasis office, and another pair is already being placed at the new Balestier Food Center entrance.

Had the beef brisket noodles there on Sunday when there was a promotion with many stalls offering dishes at $2 (limited to one serving per customer only). Ordered the $8 version which sold for $6 that day and it was the worst beef noodles I have ever tasted! The gravy was insipid, beef tasted bland and I counted 3 miserable pieces of beef brisket and 4 tiny pieces of tendon. The accompanying soup was also insipid with no beef taste at all. This will be the first and the last time I'm going to patronise that stall.
Wifey had the la mian which she claimed was so-so.
Btw, noticed that the minimum price for standard portions of food have now gone up to $3.50 at this FC.
Another case of food cost going up and quality coming down after a renovation! :x

... i guarantee you, after one visit, you wont go again....... parking is another big problem.....

slackerz wrote:Went there and tried a couple of the stalls. The teochew porridge was alright; not fantastic but definitely over-priced. BBQ Chicken wings was above average. Juicy and full of flavour. The best stall I would say goes to the beef soup. It's YUMMY but a little pricey. $4 for a bowl of soup without rice and a few pieces of beef tendon chunks. The soup is thick and the meat is very tender.
