Yummy double Ramly Burger FOUND! More Pics added

Postby ieat » Thu Jul 20, 2006 9:13 am

This is a continuation from the burger thread.
http://www.makansutra.com/forums/singap ... c&start=90
But since the stall will only be there till Sunday night, I thought I better post separately so that all you Ramly burger afficionados will not miss out.

Just when I thought I would never find a good Ramly burger in Singapore!! This is the real deal. I finally found the orginal tasting Ramly Burger which had eluded me for 25 years!! (Quite pathetic eh?)

The stall is located in the Pasar Malam along Tampines Ave 3 where Tampines West Community Club is. There are about 7 stalls selling Ramly Burgers, the one I refer to is nearer to the Tampines West CC end just opposite the red light pedestrian crossing and a signboard on the opposite side of the road saying Tampines Pine Walk (I think). The Stall has the usual Ramly sign but in addition is has the word Ranor right at the top of the banner.

With so many different stores selling Ramly Burgers I decided to observe each one to see if there are any difference. I always assumed that a Ramly is a Ramly. But there are differences.

This is how a Ramly Burger should be prepared

1. Meat comes out as a soft pattie (others like very stiff)
2. As they fry they add curry powder + Worchestershire Sauce
3. The meat is split into 2 halves and fried
4. Two slices of half square layer of cheese added (others only a single half slice)They sandwich the cheese in the meat pattie
5. Buns (No seseme seeds) are lightly toasted with thin layer of margarine on the griddle
6. Egg is fried and pattie put into the egg add mayonaise and pepper sauce
7. Chilli Sauce added and a wrapped in a wrapper with Ramly logo on it (note others use foam box - these are no good)

The other Ramlys use some lettuce, seseme seed buns (non toasted), and their patties lack the extra ooopph.

The normal one is $2.50 and you can request for the Ramly Double Cheese Burger (This was my idea I think cos the guy had to think about it a little before he did the burger.) $3.50

The meat is the orignal tasting meat I remembered from way back!!! Yummy yummy. Beats Macdonal's and BK anytime! Oh BTW, found out that the guy selling it is from JB and only sells during Pasar Malams.

Sorry the pictures are so blur. I took them with a camera phone. But notice the Ramly wrapper and the huge double pattie wrapped in egg!!! Oh, just received news that they are opened from lunch till past 10.30pm

Oh if anyone goes tonight please ask for his hp number so that we can track him down.

Marine Parade central right now also got. Pasar malam style. But haven't tried.

Last I knew there was a fixed stall at Marine Cove (where the East Coast Park McDonald's is). But did not taste anything like the real deal in Malaysia, so I never went back to see if they are still around.

Is it true that there's also a stall at the Tanjong Pagar railway station?

If you go down to Marine Parade, try to look for the banner that says Ranor and try. I have a feeling they may have a few stalls under the same brand name.

When I went to the foodball festival at Bugis, I tried one of the Ramly which came in a styrofoam box but went away dissappointed. This one damn shiok. Still thinking about it. Man my fingers still have lingering smell of the beef.

Ok I just had to have another one and this time I took my camera along.

If you have a craving for a good Ramly Burger the contact is 96364673 Noraini. He owns the franchise and they have stalls at Pasar Malams. His is the Ranor Brand.

Well Done, ieat! A good posting with savoury pics to go - looks like you've got the making of a true blue makansutran!

Just noticed that a row of food stalls have sprouted up in front of OUB Centre. There's a Ramly among them, but it's the "foam box" version :(

They are going to be at Simei this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Give Noraini a call to find out where their Ranor Ramly Burger is going to be 96364673

Should be. Simei is a very small neighbourhood. Give him a call and let us know.
