Au Petit Salut

Postby iJeff » Sun Feb 22, 2009 10:04 am

Brought my wifey to Au Petit Salut for lunch yesterday.

Image

It is a nice and cosy French restaurant located at 40C Harding Road.

Image

Image

Before the meal, I ordered a Green Apple Juice to detox first.

Image

I ordered the Executive Set Lunch ($58) with Bisque de homard (Lobster bisque with tarragon and lobster ravioli) for entree; Filet de boeuf à l’echallotes (Pan-seared beef tenderloin (150gm) served with shallots and garlic confit, mashed potato) for main course; and Fondant chaud au chocolat (Warm melted 70% dark chocolate cake served with chocolate sorbet) for dessert.

My wifey ordered the Set Lunch ($30) and changed the entree to Bisque de homard (+$10); Red wine braised beef cheeks with carrots, mushrooms and parsley potato for main course; and Strawberry and almond shortcake for dessert.

Image

We also ordered half dozen Baked Burgundy snails with tomato and garlic butter ($15) to try, which was good!

Image

Image

The Lobster Bisque was nicely done - smooth and flavourful!

Image

Here is the lobster "sui kow".

Image

The Beef Tenderloin was good!

Image

The beef (medium) was tender and the shallots and garlic confit complemented it well.

Image

My wifey enjoyed her Red Wine Braised Beef Cheeks too.

Image

My Warm Dark Chocolate Cake dessert was yummy but sinful!

Image

The Chocolate Sobert went quite well with it, but I would prefer a nice vanilla ice cream though, like the one at Seventh Heaven.

Image

My wifey was so full that she only managed to finish half of her Strawberry and Almond Shortcake.

Image

Overall, it was a good dining experience. The service was good too. :)

Nice shots. They allowed you to take so many photos. Did they make an exception for you, maybe as a special guest. Read in previous topic "bad experience at ps cafe" that some establishments have strict policy against it.

Even if he was not, I am sure he will be now because looking at the picture and the price makes me want to bring my wife there next week.

Thanks! Me no special guest. May be I shot with my compact cam (instead of dSLR) and looked like a tourist. I did check with the staff before taking the interior shot, she said "Please go ahead!". :)

Au Petit Salut's Set Lunch is well known for its value, very packed on weekdays. Better call to make reservations, esp if you want a better or quiet table. of all the things i tried there, only disappointed w their onion soup.

I think PS cafe is not in the same class as APS. Very far from it actually. While the staff have never been the brightest of the lot, they are still friendly to everyone.

Great review, iJeff, but it looks like their menu hasn't changed the last time I was there when they first opened.

^5! Im a big fan of the set lunches at APS as well as Bistro Petit Salut. Though the dishes are nothing exciting, I like the fact that I never get disappointed there. :P

If it cost $30, then Au Petit Salut gives great value for money.

Just for the sake of comparison, I ate at Choupinette and it was a set.
Basically just two slices of bread with a piece of cheese + a brinjal in between + coffee + 4 macaroons.
Price was about $25. Not exactly great VFM.
But the quaintness of the place and plain furniture are quite nice.

Choupinette is more a bistro than a full-service restaurant like APS, so I hope you are comparing it with BPS instead, which would actually put it in the wrong thread.

Personally, I think Choupinette is not good.

Au Petit Salut is one of my fav French restaurants. I especially like their cote de boeuf rotie facon troisgros. It is expensive and is for 2 ppl but if you are a steak lover it is imo the best in town. Lovely. I also enjoy their cassoulet. Very hearty. I feel like going now...
