Already into its fourth year, the Makansutra Street Food Masters
is again out to track that 12 highly skilled cooks and chefs who
by their own being, has become a very integral part of the Singapore
Food Culture.
They, as this “food mad” country of gastronomes quietly
acknowledge, are the soldiers that diligently defend Singapore culinary
heritage.
This year’s nominees include a selection of foreign born hawkers and chefs, people who have long ago arrived on our shores with a gift of their food culture and have now called Singapore home. That, is an echo of how the well loved Singapore dishes and cuisines was born many decades ago when the pioneering forefathers of Singapore came here from lands near and far to seek a better tomorrow. They naturally brought along their iconic foods with them.




36 Street Food Masters and Hawker Legends have been given that well deserved recognition since the inception of this campaign in 2005. Many more equally deserving culinary heroes are out there awaiting their day. Again, we do it this year with the unflinching support from the Singapore Tourism Board, The National Environment Agency and the Asian drinks icon Yeo’s.
