Makansutra Jakarta: “Celebrating the Best of Indonesian Food Culture and Lifestyle”

Jakarta 17 September 2003. Makansutra goes to Jakarta as Singapore’s favourite food guide launches its first publication outside the Lion City.

Indonesia is an undiscovered gem in terms of its food culture. Makansutra (S) Pte. Ltd., the people and brains behind the Makansutra Food Guide, decided to expand its concept to the neighbouring countries in Asia - the first of our many stops, Jakarta.

Makansutra Jakarta’s launch party at Alila Hotel, Jakarta (17 Sept 2003) was attended by Makansutra’s founder and makan guru, Mr. K.F. Seetoh and executive editor, Ms. Lim Moh Cher from Singapore. According to Ms. Lim, “Makansutra does not only publish food guides. Our vision is to Celebrate Asian Food Culture and Lifestyle”. She further added, “Makansutra aims to elevate the status of Asian food on the international food map”.

The evening’s launch party ended with a pool-side makan-session, the essentials for such a joyous occasion. Showcasing different warungs (stalls), guests had ample samplings of the food that were rated within the food guide.

Indonesia has a tremendous range of cuisine, with the richness of Indonesian culture influencing the food that they eat. The launch of Makansutra Jakarta is a significant move to position Indonesia as a regional and international food stop. The Makansutra Jakarta Food Guide is only a preliminary step to celebrate and promote Indonesian food culture. Future plans include food tours, TV programs, food festivals, etc. Makansutra will introduce a refreshing concept with different forms of activities to celebrate Indonesian food culture.
