Onde onde
The Lowdown:
Their inevitable daily queue are made up of hard core fans. The patience extolled in their zombiefied faces as the hawker make these wonderful dessert batch by batch, is remarkable. Your order is taken as they boil these pandan flavoured dough balls stuffed with gula melaka. They then roll it in grated coconut just before they serve your order. Some, like me, will still queue with a prayer in my heart even when told that it's all sold out. Because at a dollar for four pieces of these delectable sweets, you hope like hell that the chap in front will cancel his 30 pieces order.
Although not traditionally a Chinese desert, the chinese couple here hams out a mean version. For starters, the convenience of it being bite size is a substantial plus. Then, comes the POW!- it is made fresh before your eyes. They knead, roll, stuff it with gula melaka and boil it in pandan laced broth. Our vote for this sweet de-luscous delight is quite unanimous.
