Fried Carrot Cake

The Lowdown:

You may not know that this stall sells fried carrot cake the very first time you set your eyes on it because it sells other types of food too, and you'll most probably be distracted by the rice dumplings (bak chang) hanging at the stall.

A couple mans the stall, presumably husband and wife and they work on shifts. The man fries better carrot cake as he cooks it really "tiam" (well fried). So, it's hard luck if the lady happens to be on shift when you're there. But, the man also fries better when it's not so crowded, so try to go earlier in the evening as it gets quite crowded from 11pm onwards.

Taste:

The carrot cake is homemade and they serve both the white and black versions with lots of eggs. Unlike many other carrot cakes sold by others, the carrot cake tastes very little of flour and is super smooth in texture. It's so smooth that sometimes you can miss chewing it and it goes right down your throat. So, if you like a harder texture, you will not like this version of carrot cake. When well fried, the carrot cake pieces are crispy on the outside and soft and smooth on the inside--what a heavenly taste!
