Soon Kueh
The
Lowdown:
More and more soon kueh stalls are sprouting all over Singapore, specializing in handmade soon kueh--unlike the usual ones that are supplied from the factories.
Among all these handmade soon kueh stalls, our favourite is Albert Street Soon Kuey Mushroom located at MacPherson Lane, though it's a little out of the way for most of us. A huge piece for 70 cents, the skin is not too thick and yet elastic and chewy enough. But what really win our hearts, our mouths and our stomachs are the generous and overloaded ingredients in the filling. There are no new and special ingredients but the generous dose of turnip, mushroom, hae-bi that are well fried and tasty, bursting out of the pastry skin.
Comments:
Chris: I love their homemade chilli that goes with the soon kueh--enough kick to taste.
Bill: Cheap…really value for money. Just taking 2 or 3 pieces will fill your stomach.
Kevin: Soon kueh usually have thick skins with little filling, or thin skins with little filling. This is one with reasonably thin skin that doesn't break easily even though it's filled with so much ingredients!
