Sugee cake that is low fat, fragrant, light and easy to eat

If you are tired of having the typical log or fruit cakes during Christmas, what about trying an Eurasian favourite - the Sugee cake?
The traditional sugee cake is rich and very high in fat content with loads of butter and egg yolks. Just try this, put the cake on a dish or an absorbent paper, check the oil residue and...;.you'll be shocked by the amount of oil you see on it!
But good news for the health conscious - there's now a low fat version of the traditional Sugee cake.
The lowdown:
This low fat version uses lactic butter to get the rich flavour, but has a much-reduced amount of egg yolks. To achieve a closer taste to the original Sugee cake, specially milled coarse-grained semolina is used. There's a generous mixture of ground and chopped almonds which give an added crunch.
Bakery Depot has made special Christmas Sugee cakes decorated first with marzipan, then covered with icing. The taste is not too sweet and you can have a few pieces without feeling guilty about the calories.
Verdict:
Die hard Sugee cake fans will find that this version is a pale shadow of the traditional Sugee cake as the taste is not rich, oily and moist enough. But if you don't make any comparisons, this low fat version is fragrant, light and easy to eat.
