Rickshaw noodles
The
Lowdown:
This meal used to cost 2 cents a bowl. That was in the 60's when it was practically de-rigeur lunch for the trishaw riders stationed opposite their stall at what is today the Jinriksha Building (no points in innovation for naming it rickshaw noodles) at the end of Maxwell Rd. It is basically stewed Hokkien yellow noodles in dried anchovies and garlic soup with bits of minced meat swimming about. It does taste a lot better and lighter than it looks ( I need 2 bowls for a meal), especially when ordered with some fried fishball and taukee (dried beancurd skin).
Technically, it is not really a meal. They stew the noodles to near death and the soup is laced with the flavour of the noodles. It has an endearing light but full-bodied taste and a very lazy home made feel.
